The recent White House statement on the Lobito Corridor has highlighted the US$ 3.4 million technical assistance grant provided to Pensana in October which focuses on doubling mine capacity up to 40,000tpa of Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate and to investigate additional downstream operations and expand on the Coola and Sulima West explorations.
The statement highlights that the Lobito Corridor integrates the mineral processing capabilities Pensana is carrying out beneficiation on site to produce a high value MREC but will also look for opportunities to move downstream in country.
The collaboration emphasizes Africa’s critical role in the global energy transition by leveraging its abundant natural resources.
Angola’s critical mineral sector will also benefit from collaboration between the US Geological Survey and Angola’s Geological Institute to attract further investment into the region.
The greater collaboration and strategic alignment of critical mineral supply chains aligns with Angola’s ambitions for inclusive economic growth leveraging their world class infrastructure to contribute to the greener energy future.
