Simandou 2040: The Minister of Transport Marks an Important Milestone

Mr. Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, Minister of Transport and Government Spokesperson, participated in the signing of the contract for the purchase of 65 locomotives for the Simandou/TransGuinéen project on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

This partnership between WCS (Baowu – Winning Group) and Wabtec, for the benefit of Compagnie du TransGuinéen, represents a crucial step for the Simandou project and brings Guinea even closer to the realisation of the Trans-Guinean railway, an essential infrastructure for the country’s economic development.

The meeting brought together the Minister Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the CNT, members of the strategic committee of the Simandou 2040 project, members of the Government, as well as technical and financial partners.

The massive railway line, with a total length of 650 kilometres, is expected to connect the four natural regions of Guinea and contribute to economic growth. These 65 locomotives, valued at $247 million, will be used for the transport of ore, passengers, and goods.

Notably, the first iron ore loading is scheduled for November, to be followed by the transport of passengers and their goods.
