The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently announced a 30% reduction in the fare for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, coinciding with the commissioning of the newly constructed Abule Egba Bus Terminal—an essential infrastructure project aimed at enhancing public transportation in the state.
With the revised fare, a journey between Agbado and Oyingbo will now cost N1,000, down from N1,500.
“We have looked at the numbers and have therefore decided to have 30 per cent reduction on the fare paid on the Red Line. This means that a trip from Agbado to Oyingbo will now cost N1000.
“Today because it is about transportation, we’ve done our numbers we feel good and so I want to announce that today we’re reducing fares on our Red Line immediately, we will be doing a 30% reduction to bring down the price from N1500 to N1000.” the Governor said.
He explained that this fare reduction is intended to encourage greater adoption of the Red Line while also providing some financial relief to commuters amidst prevailing economic conditions.
The Red Line commenced passenger operations on 15 September 2024, initially running six trips daily, but this increased to nine trips per day on 10 February 2025.
During the commissioning of the bus terminal—strategically located along the Oshodi-Abule Egba Expressway to complement Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operations in the corridor—Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored its significance in improving connectivity and easing commuting challenges for residents of both the local area and Lagos as a whole.
“This Abule Egba Bus Terminal is a testament to our administration’s commitment to providing efficient and accessible public transportation for all Lagosians,” the Governor stated. “It will serve as a vital hub, seamlessly integrating with the BRT network and offering a comfortable and organized transit experience.”
He further highlighted the terminal’s role in commuter services, particularly with the ongoing construction of the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) project and the planned expansion of the BRT system, which is expected to extend towards Sango in the future. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to developing an integrated, multimodal transport system to address the state’s evolving transportation needs.
