A new public-private company established to develop railways in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.

Salcef Group S.p.A. has announced the establishment of a public-private company, under Egyptian law, that will focus on developing railway infrastructure in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. The new company is majority-owned by Salcef S.p.A., alongside Egyptian National Railways (ENR), the public railway operator which manages over 5,000 km of track nationally.

The agreement signing ceremony, held on 15 January, in Cairo, was attended by prominent institutional figures, including His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry, Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, the Italian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Michele Quaroni, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Wagdy Radwan and the Chairman of ENR, Mohamed Amer.

Speaking at the ceremony, Michele Quaroni, Italian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, commented: “I welcome with satisfaction the signing of this important agreement between Salcef Group and the Egyptian Railways as it strengthens the presence of Italian companies in the Egyptian railway sector, which is benefitting from massive investments by the Government. As evidence of the fruitful and long-lasting cooperation between Italy and Egypt – also in line with the Mattei Plan launched by the Italian Government – I am sure that Salcef’s know-how and technological excellence will contribute in a tangible way to the development of the country and to the economical relationships between Italy and Egypt.”

Valeriano Salciccia, CEO of Salcef Group, stated: “Today’s agreement represents an important step in consolidating Salcef’s role as a key player in the development of railway infrastructure in Egypt. It has been one of the Group’s key markets for over a decade, and we are proud of this partnership with Egyptian National Railways, which allows us to bring our best expertise, machinery, and experience to support the country’s journey towards the enhancement of its railway mobility system.”

The Salcef Group has been operating in Egypt since 2011, successfully completing strategic projects like renewing over 340 km of track on the Cairo-Aswan and Cairo-Alexandria lines. The Group is currently building 600 km of track along the new high-speed line from Alexandria to Marsa Matrouh.
