Nacala Logistics Makes First Coal Delivery to Lilongwe

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Malawi has reported that Nacala Logistics has successfully made its first coal delivery to Lilongwe, providing coal users in Lilongwe with supplies from Moatize in Mozambique. This follows the successful rail reconnection between Balaka and Lilongwe.

Earlier this month a train carrying coal for Shayona Cement Limited arrived at Kanengo station from Moatize.

Traders, importers, and exporters from the Central and Northern regions, as well as Zambia, are now connected to the rail network from Kanengo, eliminating the need to travel to Liwonde or Limbe for loading or receiving goods. This improved railway connectivity is expected to lower transport costs for goods going to various destinations.

Key trade destinations connected by rail outside Malawi include the Port of Nacala, Moatize, and the Port of Beira, which is connected via the Marka Railway line currently under construction.
