The second largest rail-freight operator in Italy, DB Schenker Rail Italia (formerly known as Nordcargo), runs about 12,000 trains annually, achieving around 800 million tonne-km. The company is 60% owned by Deutsche Bahn, the German state railway. The rest is held by the North Milan Railway (FNM).
