On Friday, October 11, 2024, the first train of Phase II of the Regional Express Train (TER) project was officially received at the Autonomous Port of Dakar. This delivery marks a key milestone for Phase II of the project, which will extend the TER line from Dakar to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD).

Managed by APIX-SA, Phase II aims to improve public transport by adding seven new trains to the fleet, following the successful launch of 15 trains for Phase I, which has already transported over 60 million passengers since its inauguration in December 2021. The first of these new trains arrived in Dakar after its inspection at CAF’s production site in France. After its arrival, the train will undergo testing at the Maintenance and Storage Site in Colobane.

The remaining trains are scheduled to arrive in Dakar through to March 2025, and Phase II is expected to become operational in the second half of 2025.

This project demonstrates Senegal’s commitment to improving urban mobility and modernising its transport infrastructure.
