The 1,641.4km existing rail network in Malaysia is 46% electrified on double track. This figure will rise to 58% when a new project by China Rail, starting in 2016, is completed. The 197km track will provide for trains to travel at speeds up to 160km/h, though normal operating speed will be 140km/h.
