According to the Nikkei Asian Review, construction has begun on a US$6 billion new railway that may extend eventually from Kunming, a city in South China, through Laos, Thailand and Malaysia to Singapore. China aims to begin high-speed service, with trains traveling at up to 200km/h, in 2020.
