Railways AfricaTM
Issue: 1 - 2017
In a first for the magazine, Railways AfricaTM attended the Africa Energy Indaba, held in Sandton, Johannesburg on 21 and 22 February, with the view to highlighting the synergies between the energy and rail sectors, in Africa and in the world. In line with this, Railways AfricaTM Magazine Issue 1:2017 focuses on innovation and technology to reduce emissions as well as dependency on traditional sources in rail transport.
Rail continues to be recognised as the most sustainable mode of mass transport for goods and people. From wind-powered urban networks in the Netherlands to solar powered coaches in India, issue 1 provides you with insight into the latest technologies and the most innovative power solutions on the market.
Our cover feature looks at how General Electric Transportation continues build rail capabilities in African countries, with a particular focus on the role the company plays in supporting economic growth and regional integration across the continent. In addition to providing partners with the rolling stock needed to get the continent on track for growth, GE has implemented a number of innovations in relation to power generation. Furthermore, the magazine offers updates on railway developments in Ethiopia, Ghana and across the Northern Corridor.
